Bring poetry as a healing modality to your organization

“Writing poetry together heals loneliness. What is true for someone on the deepest level is often true for us all. Reading a poem aloud and listening to the poems of others can heal the alienation which is so much a part of our world.”
Rachel Naomi Remen, MD

Since 2020, the UCSF MERI Center for Humanity in Healthcare has offered regular Poetic Medicine in Community sessions as a healing modality for loss, grief, burnout, and resiliency to over 5000 people world-wide. The Poetic Medicine format is simple to learn and powerful to enact; it has proven to improve participants’ anxiety, depression, spiritual well-being, and resiliency.

The MERI Center is now offering a Facilitator Training Program for anyone interested in leading their own Poetic Medicine in Community sessions.

A comprehensive training program, that includes:

  • Experiencing Poetic Medicine – real-time, interactive, virtual Poetic Medicine sessions
  • Learning Poetic Medicine Facilitation and Program Development Skills – half-day national training workshop with MERI
  • Practicing Facilitation Skills – co-lead a real-time session with an established MERI facilitator
  • Debriefing– Real-time virtual debrief and reflection with an established MERI facilitator

This virtual training is open to any individual or members of an organization (social service agency, senior center, religious group, etc) who wish to be able to understand and utilize this simple and proven format in their own community.
