May 2021 Communication Tip
Center for the Advancement of Palliative Care Resources
This month, I want to alert you to a wonderful resource for further developing your Communication skills.
The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) offers state-of-the art, online, self-directed training resources designed for clinicians from all disciplines and specialties.
UCSF is a CAPC member, so anyone (all of you) with a UCSF email address can get access completely free.
Sign in with your UCSF email and then consider one or more of these 5 wonderful Communication courses.
- Delivering Serious News
- Discussing Prognosis
- Clarifying Goals of Care
- Conducting a Family Meeting
- Advance Care Planning Conversations
CAPC Communications Courses are coordinated with Vital Talk (to which I’ve referred frequently in these monthly HDFCCC communication tips).
In addition, CAPC has a COVID-19 Resource Hub, including COVID-19 specific communication resources.
Finally, as an added bonus, if you complete a course, CAPC offers continuing education credits (for nursing, medicine [including ABIM MOC], social work, and case management).
Happy Communicating (and happy May),
Please let me know if you have any troubles or could use some help with CAPC courses.
All My Best,
Mike
PS… There are lots of other great resources available on the CAPC site as well… pain management, non-pain symptom management, advance care planning, supporting family caregivers, etc. Check it out.
